Nineteen veterinary experts in Feline Medicine weighed in on the question in the Public Library of Science online journal, February edition of PLOS One. Listed in the report are 25 behavioral signs of pain in cats. Each sign was considered to be sufficient to indicate pain but no one single sign was considered necessary for it.

Signs of pain included in the list are:

1. Difficulty jumping (and it’s not just old age!!!)

2. Absence of grooming

3. Playing less

4. Growling

5. Straining to Urinate

6. Lameness

So, if you notice any of these signs in your cat, (or any or the other ones listed in the article), please give us a call.
